The right area cover can lay the groundwork for an entire room. You can draw inspiration for the entire room through the area rug. Add a layer of interest with color tones, and different textures. Here are some tips for finding the right area rug:
1- Size - It is standard to leave about two the three feet around the rooms perimeter. For a rug under a dining room table it is important to make sure that the chairs will remain on the rug even when they are pulled out. For an area rug that is focused in one specific area of the room it is important to just make sure that it is proportionate to the furniture that is around it.
2- Pad - Be sure to use a rug pad that is designed for your flooring. Having a pad helps to prevent slipping and protect both the floor and the rug.
3- Cleaning - I recommend have the rug professionally cleaned once a year. Wool and synthetic fiber rugs should be vacuumed regularly and spot cleaned as needed. Indoor/Outdoor rugs can be shaken outside or even washed off with a hose.
4- Turn the rug - To avoid uneven wear I suggest rotating the area rug depending on the traffic in the area.
I have area rugs in all shapes, sizes, colors and textures and adding an area rug can really change the look and feel of a space. Leave a comment and let me know what you think about adding and area rug to your space.
