Designing a master bedroom as a couple can be quite tricky! We meet with clients all the time that are struggling to make their bedroom the perfect blend of masculine and feminine styles. Start with choosing a headboard that can become the focal point of the room. An upholstered headboard in a neutral fabric highlights the masculine style while blending a soft fabric highlights the feminine style.
Don’t be a victim of painter’s remorse! Although it is tempting to pick out your paint color as soon as you move into a new home or begin a new design project, you actually want to pick your paint color last. You have thousands of paint colors to choose from but maybe only one piece of artwork that fits perfectly into your room. Develop your design plan first and then pick your paint color once all of your unique pieces are chosen.
Is your guest room ready for holiday guests? Is there a luggage stand and/or a space in the closet for them to comfortably “settle in”? Are there plenty of pillows on the bed? Window treatments to avoid an early rise? A small chair next to a table which features a lamp or even reading material would be a GREAT addition to your guest room.
Don’t settle for boring chairs! If you are not necessarily ready to jump into a bold fabric, don’t simply choose a chair that “works”. Chairs that have decorative accents such as wood accents surrounding the chair, contrasting nail heads, welt of a different color, or turned arms add so much style to your space.

Elongate those windows! Bring your window treatments all the way to top of your molding to create the illusion that your space is taller than it really is. Lower ceilings with low window treatments can make the room feel stuffy and claustrophobic.
It is a proven fact that clutter causes stress! The first room you walk in not only is your first chance to show your guests your style but it also is important for your own well-being. Make this a room of relaxation when you walk through with cheerful colors and artwork. Functionality is also a key factor but don’t make the first room you enter a space for mail and bills.
